Useful tips: Would you like a drink? Yes please!
Have you ever been offered a glass of water or tea/coffee at an interview? Here’s a tip: Always say yes! Read on to find out why.
Being offered a drink during an interview is a warm gesture and a great way to help people feel at ease. However, this is also a useful tool that you can use as part of your interview strategy. Stick with us on this!
Firstly, keeping hydrated is a great way to stay alert and ease any interview nerves. Drinking water also supports healthy brain function, so it should help you to keep on track. All of this is useful, however, there’s an even better reason to accept a drink. If you have a glass of water, you can use it to give yourself more time to think about your responses. Whenever you are asked a question and need some time to think, you can take a sip of water. OK, this may only be a few extra seconds. But sometimes that’s all you’ll need to listen to the question, reflect and decide on your response. In our experience, those few extra seconds make all the world of difference in providing a clear and well-thought-out answer to interview questions.
One final tip…
Not all interviewers will offer a drink. Don’t panic! Our advice is to always take a bottle of water. That way, you’re covered!
